If an unpaid or contested debt of yours is sent to collections, you may be tempted to hire a lawyer to handle some of the work associated with getting the debt cleared. It used to be that if you were ignoring your creditors and were delinquent in paying, that your debt would be sold to a collection agency, but now there can be paperwork errors and other problems that result in you being contacted without prior knowledge of a debt.
