Busted But Not Responsible? Tips For Your Defense

If you've been arrested for a crime you didn't commit, you need to defend your legal rights. You have the right to an attorney who can help you present your case. After being wrongly accused of something myself, I learned quickly how to navigate the legal avenues to have my case dismissed. My attorney was a great resource for building the case, and because of my understanding of the law, it worked. I created this site to share what I learned along the way and some other great tips for others who have been wrongly accused and arrested for a crime.

Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Car Accident Case

Law Blog

Car accidents happen every single day, and your day may come at some point. If it does and you are injured from the accident, you may have the right to file a claim against the person who caused the collision. If so, there are certain mistakes you should avoid making during your case as these could ruin your chances of being able to collect money for your claim.

Telling lies about your case

While you should never admit fault in an accident, you should always tell the truth. The problem with lying is that the insurance adjuster or attorneys involved in the case may catch you in lies. If this happens, you could lose your credibility in the case, and this could cause you to forfeit the compensation you are entitled to.

Using social media

A second mistake people make after car accidents is posting things on social media that could be used against them. Because of this, you should avoid posting anything on any social media site until after you have completely settled your accident case.

Failing to get medical treatment

If you have any injuries at all, even if it is only a bad headache, you should seek medical help. A big mistake some people make is failing to get help from a doctor after an accident. If you do not seek help from a doctor, it will be very hard to prove you were injured from the accident. This is why you should always go to the doctor after an accident, even if you do not feel like you have major injuries of any kind.

Signing papers you should not sign

Another mistake you should avoid is signing documents that you are asked to sign, unless the documents were handed to you by your own lawyer. Your own lawyer will make sure you do not agree to anything without his or her approval, and you could end up with problems by signing a paper that your lawyer did not give you.

Failing to stick with the statutes of limitations

The other mistake you must avoid is failing to pursue compensation within the time frame you are given, and this time frame is referred to as the statutes of limitations. You probably have at least one year, or longer, to do this, but you must start your claim before you reach this point in time.

If you do not want to jeopardize your ability to collect money from your car accident case, you will need to avoid making these mistakes, and you will also need to hire a personal injury lawyer for help settling your case.
